We had another successful Dental Mission with the dentists of Centro Escolar University last September 23, 2007. This school year we took the volunteer dentists to the ERDA Technical and Vocational Secondary School in Pandacan, Manila.
ERDA Tech is a 5-year high school geared towards helping students from poor families learn technical and vocational skills which will enable them to find employment right after graduating from high school. ERDA Tech is a part of the Educational Research and Development Assistance (ERDA) Foundation, founded by Fr. Pierre Tritz, S.J. The ERDA Foundation has helped many poor families improve their lives through livelihood projects, outreach programs, educational scholarships and much more.
During the Dental Mission last September, 122 individuals availed of the free dental services. Of the 122 individuals, 63 were ERDA Tech students and 59 were family members of the high school students. ERDA Tech. has a population of 563 students for SY 2007-2008.
Simple tooth extractions were done on-site, while patients requiring complicated procedures, including cavity fillings, denture work and cleaning were referred to the free dental clinic at the College of Dentistry at the Centro Escolar University campus.
The volunteer dentists, all alumni of the CEU College of Dentistry were Dr. Lea Lisa Navarro-Sadural, Dr. Emma Marie Limuaco, Dr. Ronald De Leon, Dr. Alma Paredes, Dr. Dennis Levinto and Dr. Joann Joven. The team was headed by Dr. Edita V. Maralit, Head of Alumni Relations at the CEU Dental Alumni Association.
This is our 3rd year of partnership with the CEU College of Dentistry, Community Dentistry Division and with them, we have brought quality dental services to families and communities who cannot readily afford it.
