A Better Chance Foundation is a non-stock, non-profit, non-sectarian and non-governmental charitable institution which aims to assist financially challenged children.
In 1995, Lewis A. Edwards, an American businessman, started the Charlie Edwards Foundation in honor of his eldest son. The Foundation focused on disadvantaged and poor children and those on treatment for hepatitis, primary complex and cerebral palsy.
Mid 2001, A Better Chance Foundation was founded to replace the Charlie Edwards Foundation. ABC Foundation is governed by 7 motivated Board of Directors with Lewis Edwards as Chairman.
The Foundation envisions itself of becoming a significant and respected contributor to nation building by giving equal opportunity to education and other learning facilities among indigent but deserving Filipino children towards developing their human potential to the maximum and, eventually, making them an asset to society.
The Foundation, in cooperation with the government and other learning institutions as well as in collaboration with targeted families and communities, aims to provide financial assistance to economically challenged but properly motivated children to enable them to pursue quality preschool, elementary, secondary as well as college education.
1. Implement a sustained scholarship program for economically challenged but deserving children among the poorest of the poor in the Philippine society;
2. Develop among its recipients the core values of social awareness and responsibility as well as the virtues of hard work, honesty and integrity;
3. Conduct researches to determine factors that hinder effective learning and offer possible solutions to these impediments; and
4. Encourage recipients, particularly with respect to college scholars to practice the "Pay it Forward" scheme so that the program becomes a continuous helping process that could benefit future generations.
